The Igbo community in Yobe State has pledged its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The pledge was made on Wednesday when a delegation of Igbo Associations in the state, led by the Igbo community leader, Sunday Igwe Izewane, paid a courtesy visit to Baba Wali.

Mr. Izewane, who was born and raised in Northern Nigeria, said the delegation visited Wali to appreciate him for the support and cooperation he extended to members of the Igbo community during his tenure as Secretary to the Yobe State Government.

He described the visit as an opportunity for the community to reciprocate the goodwill it had received, assuring Wali that the Igbo community was prepared to support his governorship ambition.

Izewane further said members of the community would participate in Wali’s campaign activities across the state, stressing that they consider Yobe their home and remain committed to its development.

According to him, the associations had, over the past two years, encouraged their members across the 17 local government areas of the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to promote electoral participation.

He also expressed the community’s intention to support Wali and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Responding, Wali thanked the Igbo associations for the visit and their expression of support, assuring them of his willingness to continue working with the community.

He described the Igbo people as industrious and enterprising, noting that their contributions to commerce, business and other economic activities could further support the development of Yobe State.

Wali pledged that, if elected, his administration would partner with the Igbo community and other groups to promote economic growth, strengthen cooperation and advance the development of the state.

He also reiterated the importance of unity, peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the diverse communities residing in Yobe State.
