Masari calls for regulation of social media

Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has called for the regulation of social media usage to guard against its negative tendencies that are affecting all spectrum of the society.
Masari who made the call, yesterday while receiving the minister of communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu on a courtesy visit to him argued that there must be guidelines and regulations guiding the use of the social media.
The governor argued that despite the many good things brought by the new technology it has led to a lot of socio-economic dislocation in the society which he said it even sometimes leads to marriage breakages.
He lamented that the worse culprits in the negative tendencies of the new technology were the service providers who he alleged are yet to comply fully with the SIM registration which he said made it easier for fraud stars and hackers to use.
Masari revealed that some fraud stars had at various times hacked into his phone numbers sending messages on his behalf asking for favours from unsuspecting well to do members of the society.
In his remarks, the Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu said the Information and Communication Technology has provided another source of revenue earning to the government at a time the oil revenue is declining.
He noted that as at now the new technology has made banking, commerce, education, governance, health issues very much easier, faster, economical and less stressful.
