The non-teaching staff of Nigeria universities has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action following an alleged shortchange in the sharing formula by the federal government.
The members, who are staffs of three unions; NASU, SSANU and NAAT had made the announcement to commence the strike last Thursday in a press release signed by the national president of the three unions.
This action by the union was believed to have been triggered by the sharing formula approved by the federal governments for the recently released N23billion to universities as earned allowance.
ASUU, who received about 75 percent of the funds and the non-teaching staff got the remaining, but the nonacademic staff said they were shortchanged in the sharing formula.
The workers also said the government has failed to fulfill any of the agreements reached for more than two months ago, when the previous strike was called off.
The unions gathered in Abuja yesterday to press home their demands and commence immediate strike should government fail to address them.
