Ex-senate president, Nnamani urges Nigerians to join anti-graft war

Former senate president, Ken Nnamani has called on Nigerians to join hands with government in the fight against corruption in the country.
Nnamani made the call yesterday at the public presentation and launch of ” WE THE PEOPLE” Book and Movement by the People’s Grassroots Association for Corruption Free Nigeria in Abuja.
He noted that government alone cannot fight corruption but needs the concerted cooperation of all Nigerians to do so.
“Corruption is not limited to only those in politics. Corruption tendencies are at all levels and not limited to the upper class alone,” the ex-senate president who represented former Head of State, AbdulsalamiAbubakar at the event observed.
He also underscored the important role the family has to play in ensuring a developed and a corruption free Nigeria.
“The war against corruption cannot be left for government alone, not for Buhari alone. We should start from family,” Nnamani added.
He said the titled of the book, ”We the People: Building A New Democracy in Nigeria As a Model for Africa” was apt especially as they target fighting corruption from bottom to top.
Speaking, Professor Peter Nwangwu, President/Chairman, People’s Grassroots Association for Corruption Free Nigeria, said most of the challenges facing Nigeria are mindset problems which drive the country in the wrong direction.
He, however, raised hopes saying that something can be done about the learning process and mindset challenges to reengineer and redirect the country.
Also speaking with the media on the sideline of the event yesterday, the book reviewer and Vice Chancellor , Federal University Gashua, Professor Andrew Harunainsisted that the reading culture in Nigeria must be revived.
He urged Nigerians to read the book and inculcate the recommendations in their daily life.
Professor Haruna said one of the recommendations of the book was for Nigerians to change attitude, mindset, and behaviour
He also sought an end to the blame government syndrome, asking the followership to be agents of change.
Similarly, the chairman of the Abuja Planning Committee for the book and movement, Engr. RotimiOlagbayedisclosed that the book would be launchedin the 36 states of the federation in addition to opening offices in the states.
