APM Presidential Candidate Makinde Vows to Reset Nigeria’s Security Architecture

Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde, has pledged to overhaul Nigeria’s security architecture and address the country’s economic challenges if elected president in the 2027 general election.

Makinde made the pledge on Monday while addressing party stakeholders at the APM North Central Town Hall meeting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The meeting formed part of the Makinde-Daura campaign’s nationwide consultations and stakeholder engagements ahead of the 2027 elections. The campaign had earlier announced plans to hold town hall meetings across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Makinde criticised the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, arguing that they had worsened hardship for many Nigerians.

He said his administration, if elected, would pursue what he described as a “Reset Agenda” aimed at strengthening the economy, improving security and addressing challenges in key sectors.

“I have the energy to govern Nigeria effectively. I will reset the economy of the country, and the impact will be felt by the people. I call on Nigerians to vote for the APM,” Makinde said.

On security, the APM candidate said insecurity had severely affected communities across the North Central region and promised a comprehensive national strategy to address the problem.

“Insecurity has ravaged the North Central because of weaknesses in the security architecture. If I become president, there will be a comprehensive plan to tackle insecurity nationwide,” he said.

Makinde also listed education, healthcare, agriculture and energy among sectors his administration would prioritise, alongside measures to tackle hunger and improve the economy.

He said the proposed Reset Agenda would be pursued within a four-year term, with the objective of improving security, economic opportunities and the welfare of Nigerians.

Makinde is contesting the 2027 presidential election on the APM platform alongside former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, as his running mate.

Speaking at the town hall meeting, Daura urged Nigerians to support APM candidates across the country.

“We have what it takes to develop Nigeria. Join Makinde to reset the country,” Daura said.

He also cautioned voters against accepting inducements from political parties in exchange for their votes.

The town hall meeting brought together APM candidates, party leaders, youths, women, persons with disabilities and other stakeholders from across the North Central states.
