South South leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have tasked members of the National Assembly to reconsider debate on restructuring of Nigeria.
Their position was canvassed at the 7th session of PDP South-South Zonal Working Committee held on Sunday in Benin City, the Edo state Capital.
In a seven paragraph Communique, the party clarified that restructuring was a solution for a united Nigeria and true Federalism, but it rejected the reintroduction of the offshore/onshore disharmony, citing inconsistency to the principles of federalism.
The party flayed the continuous fleecing of its leaders across the Country by security agencies loyal to the ruling party, including “the arrest of the Edo State chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, PDP South South zone for flimsy excuses.”
It promised to work with other zones in the country to produce a credible presidential candidate for the 2019 Presidential elections within the confine of credible and acceptable democratic process as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
The leaders also condemned the clashes between farmers and herders in some parts of the Country and particularly condole with Nigerians in Plateau and Benue states where Nigerians lost their lives to herdsmen.
Part of the Communique reads: “The zone encourages the National Assembly to consider the issue of restructuring as a panacea for a united Nigeria and true Federalism.
“The PDP South South zone also rejects reintroduction of the offshore/onshore disharmony inconsistent to the principles of federalism.”
