Niger Gov’t pays N300m WAEC, other exams fees

The Niger state government has approved the payment of N300m for West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) and other examination bodies for the students under the state free education scheme.
The state Commissioner for Education, Fatima Madugu stated this yesterday in a post Executive Council meeting briefing, explaining that the amount represented part payment of outstanding debt of N969m owed the examination bodies.
Madugu explained that with the release of the amount, government has offset fees charged by the bodies for forth coming examinations.
In the same vein, the state commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Mamman Musa disclosed that the state government has also procured high lift pumps and other accessories at the cost of N700m.
The Commissioner also explained that the equipments were to boost water supply in six cities of Minna, Kontagora, Bida, Suleja, New Bussa and Lapai.
He said that some of the pumps have been installed at Minna water works adding that, “this has led to tremendous improvement of water reticulations in Minna”.
