The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Iwar has said the Command has recovered over 70 illegal firearms and ammunitions, in its bid to mop up the state of such arms.
He stated this after a stakeholders meeting with Hunters Volunteer Association and some traditional rulers held in Kaduna yesterday.
The CP said the arms have not been made public because more are being recovered on daily basis from different parts of the state. He however promised that before the week runs out the Command will display the total recovered arms.
“We don’t want to show the face of the arms owners because we are conducting this operation within the context of trust and respect of the people that are bringing these arms.
“We want to respect, and maintain their trust because without trust this program will be faced with challenges,” he said.
CP Iwar assured the stakeholders that the tempo will be sustain so that at the end of the day, peace and security of Kaduna state will be guaranteed.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Hunters Volunteers Association,
Alhaji Baba Wuro commended the CP for introducing Community Policing in the state; noting that the police have been giving his Association all the support needed which has yielded positive results.
Wuro called on all communities to come together and work with the police to address some of the challenges facing the state. He identified some of the challenges like kidnapping, armed banditry and cattle rustling.
“One of our aims and objectives is to help security agencies flush out all those criminals in their hideouts.
“We remain committed to working with the security agencies and stakeholders to address this menace in the state,” he added.
