FCT: Man burns son with hot iron over food

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 29 -year-old man, Godstime Ategho, in an FCT High Court, Apo, for allegedly placing a hot pressing iron on the body of his 7-year-old son.
Ategho, of Pasali, Kuje, is standing trial on a count charge of willful infliction of physical injury before Justice Idris Kutigi. The prosecutor, Mr Jaafaru Ayitogo, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence in November,2017.
He said that the defendant placed a hot pressing iron on the body of his 7-year-old son for stealing food, which was meant for his mother.
Ayitogo added that the defendant did not take his son to the hospital for treatment.
The offence contravened Section 2 of the Violent Against Persons [Prohibition] Act, 2015, while the defendant denied committing the offence.
Kutigi granted the defendant bail on personal recognition and adjourned the case until May 17, for hearing.(NAN)
