World Malaria Day: Adamawa govt earmarks N2bn for malaria epidemic

The Adamawa state Government said by 2020, malaria will be completely rooted out of the state.
Speaking during commemoration of 2018 World Malaria Day in Yola, Wednesday, the commissioner of health, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar said that the state has put mechanism on ground to checkmate the spread of the epidemic in the state.
Dr. Abubakar announced that the government has earmarked N2 Billion to fight the disease this year in the state.
Represented by her Permanent secretary Mr. Kennedy Bartimawus explained that the state government has distributed more than 2.5 million mosquito nets in Nov 2017 to its entire population as part of measurement against the deadly disease.
According to her every household has at least one net to prevent mosquito bite every night.
She added that the state government test before treatment of every person with fever to confirm malaria before taking appropriate anti-malarial drug.
Earlier in his speech, Programme Manager of the state Malaria Elimination programme, Mr.Isaac Kadala declared that 300,000 people died annually from malaria epidemic in the country.
Mr.Kadala explained that the state government has procured drugs, mosquito nets, testing kits and free treatment to patients.
He urged people to always go for test before treating suspected case of malaria which will assist in showing them their true health condition.
