Date:

By Senator Isah Jibrin (Echocho), Senator Representing Kogi East

Ten years have passed since the immortal flame of Prince Abubakar Audu left this world, yet his light has neither dimmed nor wavered. Instead, it has grown clearer—illuminating our path, our conscience, and our collective aspiration for a greater Kogi State. Today, as we mark a decade since his transition, we do not gather in sorrow but in solemn pride for a life lived with rare courage, visionary leadership, and an unshakable commitment to the people he loved.

Prince Abubakar Audu was not merely the first Executive Governor of Kogi State; he was the architect of its earliest dreams. A statesman of uncommon foresight, he saw possibilities where others saw limitations, and he planted seeds of progress long before the land understood their worth. From education to infrastructure, from institution-building to economic upliftment, he laid foundations that continue to bear fruit across generations.

His legacy was not in the offices he occupied, but in the lives he touched. He governed with discipline, served with humility, and dreamt with an audacity that inspired both friends and critics. In moments of national uncertainty, he stood firm. In seasons of local challenges, he stood for his people. His sacrifices—often silent, often profound—were the quiet pillars upon which a new Kogi was built.

What continues to distinguish Prince Audu is the statesman’s spirit he carried to the very end: steadfast, unbending, hopeful. He understood that leadership is not about power, but about purpose; not about titles, but about transformation. His footsteps remain etched in the soil of Kogi East, and his voice still echoes in the hearts of those who believe in a united, prosperous, and dignified Kogi State.

As we remember him today, we recommit ourselves to the ideals he lived for—service, courage, vision, peace, and progress. His journey reminds us that true leaders do not die; they ascend into memory and continue to lead from there.

May the Almighty continue to grant his soul eternal rest, and may his legacy remain a guiding star for all who labour for the good of our land.
