Northern Christians want Nigeria’s security system overhauled

The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians, (CNNC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to embark on a complete overhaul of the top echelons of Nigeria’s security architecture for better results since massive loss of lives have become virtually daily and unstoppable.
The Congress stated this in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary Larry Joseph Yammai and made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday.
Mr Yammai who expressed dismay about the recent wanton destruction of lives and property in Plateau state said the attack has hallmarks of being premeditated and a plan to sabotage farming activities.
He added that lack of concrete and definite steps on the part of the government to smacks tacit approval of the pogrom taking place exposed the unwillingness of those at the helms of affairs of security in the country to tackle the challenges; and also put in question the President’s credential to tackle crises.
According to him, the attack on majority Christian farmers in the Plateau by alleged herdsmen has a calculated, oiled and administered tactical masterplan to completely sack our members from these areas.
“CNNC notes with growing concern the rapidly deteriorating security situation across the nation particularly in the North. Despite the acclaimed government responses at various tiers CNNC is worried that certain stakeholders are still firing the embers of discord.
“CNNC therefore condemns the recent call by Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) that the Adamawa 5 “must die”. It would be recalled that an Adamawa state High Court siting in Yola recently condemned to death by hanging.
“It is horrifying that despite the liberty of the defendants to file an appeal to a higher court of competent jurisdiction MURIC has foreclosed that process by its extra-judicial pronouncement. It cannot be said that MURIC acted in ignorance but deliberate mischief.
“CNNC is also concerned about the impunity of the recent proposal by the Federal Government to implement the “National Livestock Transformation Plan” without any form of consultation with the various stakeholders particularly in the farming communities where CNNC membership is prevalent,” he said.
