Lai Muhammed urges journalists to promote girl-child education

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has called on working journalists in Zamfara state and the north at large to for the sake of ensuring educated society, embark upon reports that would encourage concerned bodies to pay more attention to girls education.
Speaking at a media dialogue organized by UNICEF and other partners yesterday in Gusau Zamfara state capital, the Deputy Director and Head Advocacy Child Rights Information Bureau, Mr Olumide Osanyinpeju who represented the minister said, journalists have vital role to play in delivering the message to the targeted spheres.
“Considering how successful the media have been in creating visibility for development issues and telling the people what to think about, I wish you all to appreciate, at this point, that your well defined reports and stories are still needed to sensitize the people, especially the duty bearers of the need to enroll the girl child in school,” the minister said.
He further said, a multitude number of girls are yet to be captured in the programme hence, the media dialogue was organized aimed at to enlighten the media on Girl Education issues across focus states in the north as girls are important part of the society, the reason high percentage of success in developmental processes could be associated to them in any society.
“Girls have peculiar place they occupy in the homes, and the role they play in the society in general. We all know that the Girls 4 Girls Initiative is a component of the Girl’s Education Project Phase 3 being implemented in the Northern Nigeria to help support girls to remain in school and improve their learning achievement,” he added.
