The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has trained no fewer than 92 personnel of the Nigeria Airforce (NAF) on six basic works skills development programme, that will further enhance their performance.
The trade areas include; plumbing and pipe fittings, welding and fabrication, electrical installation, masonry, air condition and refrigeration as well as computer aided design.
Speaking at the graduation of the trainees yesterday, in Abuja, the Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph Ari said the participants were drawn from various commands and units of the NAF across the country.
Ari, who was represented by Director, ITF Field Services Department, Mrs Adesola Taiwo, explained that the graduands, who are second batch of NAF participants equipped with knowledge and skills, were given equally provided start-up packs.
According to him, the tools/kits will enable the trained personnel to transfer learning to the job, thereby leading to a multiplier effect as other people learn from them.
He opined that the intensive works training scheme, which is a collaboration between NAF and ITF marks a milestone in the implementation of the basic works skills development programme.
The ITF boss therefore called on all employers of labour in both public and private organizations to train and re-training for continuous improvement in the work setting, thereby improving the Nigerian economy.
Earlier in her welcome address, Training Manager, ITF Model Skill Training Centre, Abuja, Mrs Ayodele Olayinka, disclosed that the 3-month programme designed for NAF personnel had 192 trainees as its pioneer participants.
She opined that the programme holds good promises for the future of skills for sustainable work place environment for armed forces.
In a remark, Group Captain Abiodun. O Oyekunle, NAF Director of Works, represented Chief of Air staff, said the training is a reflection of the organization’s resolve in the area of providing effective and efficient services.
He commended ITF for what he described as a well packaged training for its personnel.
