The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Taraba State, Sen. Abubakar Umar Tutare, has expressed condolences to the people of Binnari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area following the killing of more than 10 people by suspected bandits.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council, Saidu Sadiq Adamu, and issued in Jalingo on Sunday, Tutare described the attack as unacceptable and reaffirmed his solidarity with the affected community.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, reportedly claimed more than 10 lives, left several people injured and resulted in the destruction of property.
Tutare strongly condemned the incident and called on governments at all levels and security agencies to take urgent measures to protect lives and property, particularly in vulnerable communities.
He expressed concern over the recurring attacks on peaceful communities across the state, especially in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido local government areas.
“Every citizen has the constitutional right to life, welfare and property ownership, and the primary duty of any government is to ensure the security and protection of these rights at all times.
“We therefore call on the government and security agencies to move beyond expressions of concern and take concrete, proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and property,” he said.
Sen. Tutare urged the relevant authorities to strengthen security measures, including the immediate deployment of security personnel and the provision of adequate resources to address security gaps in vulnerable communities.
He also called for the identification and arrest of those responsible for the attack and their prosecution in accordance with the law to serve as a deterrent to future offenders.
“To the victims, we sympathise with you and assure you of our solidarity during this difficult moment. We also pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of your loved ones who lost their lives and wish those injured a speedy recovery,” the statement added.
