Sokoto: Shagari declares for PDP governorship race

The immediate past deputy governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari has declared his intention to contest for governor on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections.
Shagari is former Minister for water resources under President Olusegun Obasanjo government. He had, also contest for the same post on the same platform in 2015 general elections, but lost out to the incumbent, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Speaking to journalists shortly after he met with leaders of the party in the state at party’s Secretary, Shagari promised to make education, health care delivery, agriculture and infrastructure as major priorities if elected.
According to him, “Education will be a very important sector which I will pay attention to, if you are not educated, people will be pushing you here and there.
“I will also ensure that infrastructure development in Sokoto state is second to none in the country, I will also ensured that healthcare delivery is given necessary priority.
“I cannot see the reason why we cannot provide enough drugs for our people in the state, there are people in the remote area who cannot afford to take their children to the hospital,” he said.
Shagari also affirmed that no candidate can march his political pedigree, and boasted of possessed more experience in politics, governance, administration than other aspirants.
He, however, disclosed that he is willing to abide by the decision of the party leaders in the end.
