The Chairman of the Northern Christian Association (NCA), Rev. Joseph John Hayab, has urged politicians in Kaduna State to avoid divisive politics and conduct the lead-up to the 2027 general elections in a way that fosters unity, peace, and development.
Hayab made the call on Thursday in Kaduna during the official launch of the Kaduna State Indigenous Ministers Association, KASIMA, emphasizing that politics should be used to strengthen peaceful coexistence rather than to exploit ethnic or religious differences.
He observed that Kaduna had started to see renewed efforts to promote inclusiveness across its diverse communities and urged political figures across parties to maintain this momentum.
“As Kaduna State residents, we should commend our governor and some political leaders at this time.
“ They are beginning to restore the unity we’ve always wanted to see in Kaduna State, where every part of the state is seen as a vital part of the building, the leadership, and the collective identity of the state.
“We shouldn’t ignore what we see. We see it, we’re happy for it, and we support it,” he stated.
The cleric warned against letting the election period turn into hostility and instead challenged candidates to focus on what they can offer the people.
“Let this political era be a peaceful one, a time of unity. Let politicians come and tell us what they can do for Kaduna State.
“Since leadership belongs to everyone, let us support those we believe can deliver.
“Governor Uba Sani has demonstrated leadership, and I am glad that other political parties are doing the same. Please, let this political period not divide us but bring us together.
“ Let it remind us that we are all Kaduna State residents who want the best for our state,” Hayab said.
He added that whoever is chosen as leader should prioritize good governance over sectional interests.
“Whoever God grants leadership to should serve, deliver results, and make Kaduna State the place we all desire,” he said.
Regarding KASIMA, Hayab stated that the association was created to unite indigenous ministers to contribute to peacebuilding, good governance, and community development.
He noted that the group had been functioning informally for more than five years before its formal launch.
“We cannot work separately; we must come together. The leadership inaugurated today will reach every local community, so every indigenous pastor in Kaduna State can identify with and support the state, and help correct any wrongs.
“Our role is not to praise but to help ensure that the right things are done across Kaduna State.
“If the right actions are taken in Ikara, Sanga, Kachia, Kauru, and other areas, Kaduna will become a more peaceful and better home for all of us,” he explained.
He called on Christians in the state to take ownership of Kaduna’s development and support efforts that promote peace and security.
“Until we wake up and treat Kaduna State as our own, we will keep complaining and fighting without any progress.
“When we speak with one voice, support our leaders, and help correct mistakes where necessary, Kaduna State will become the peaceful place we all want,” he said.
Hayab also advised the new KASIMA leaders to lead with humility and patience, noting that leadership depends on followers for success.
Additionally, Vice Chairman of CAN Kaduna State Chapter, Rev. Joel Simon Madaki, described KASIMA as a vital platform for strengthening Christian unity and peacebuilding.
He pledged that CAN would partner with the association.
“The relationship between CAN and KASIMA is one of partnership. Together, we will promote peace, unity, and advocate for the welfare of our people in Kaduna State,” Madaki stated.
During his remarks, the newly inaugurated KASIMA President, Archbishop Dr. Joseph Yari Jatau, said the group would focus on fostering unity among indigenous pastors and supporting government efforts to maintain peace.
“Our duty is to unite indigenous pastors, support the government through prayers and other legitimate means, and ensure Kaduna remains peaceful.
“The Bible teaches us to pray for the peace of the land because when the land is at peace, the people also enjoy peace,” he stated.
Jatau revealed that KASIMA includes representatives from all 23 local government areas of the state and plans to establish local chapters to strengthen grassroots engagement.
The event was attended by church leaders, government officials, and Christian faithful from across the state, all expressing optimism that KASIMA will contribute to peace, unity, and sustainable development in Kaduna.
