Attah-Igala decries deplorable state of roads in his domain

The Attah-Igala, Michael Ameh-Oboni II, yesterday decried the deplorable state of roads across the Igala land and called on the Federal and state Governments to come to their aid.

He made the call in Idah when the Abuja chapter of Igala Women Association of Nigeria paid him a royal homage in Idah, the ancestral headquarters of Igala people.

Ameh-Oboni II said the poor state of roads in the area had adversely affected the economy of the people and stunted the development of the area.

The monarch stressed the need for an airport in the state, adding that a lot of investment opportunities were eluding the area as a result of dearth of such facilities.

He called on Igala sons and daughters to come home and develop the area, adding that the area was faced with “enormous development challenges”.

The royal father said it would require the concerted efforts of the various levels of government and individuals to address the infrastructural challenges militating against the development of the area.

He thanked the women group for the visit and urged them to sustain the good work they were doing to ensure rapid socio-economic development of Igala land.

Earlier in her remarks, the President of the association, Mrs Mariam Okpanachi, said the women were in the palace to felicitate with the Attah and to thank God for making it possible for him to ascend the throne of his fore-fathers.

She said the objective of the association was to empower the less privileged persons in the society, especially women and children, persons with disabilities and the orphans. (NAN)
