Customs reads riot act to smugglers as seizures are recorded

The Monitoring Unit of the Federal Operation Unit of the Customs have read a riot act to smugglers even as it revealed seizures of goods worth over N110 million with a payable duty of N63.6 million and a DPV of N174.2 million.

This much was revealed by the Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit Zone A, Ikeja, Nuhu Mahmoud in a chat with our Correspondent in his office in Lagos He gave the breakdown as 9, 013 bags of 50kg rice worth N47 ,565,00 with duty payable put at N53,321,500 with a DPV 99,886,500, 4,938 cartons of smuggled foreign frozen poultry products valued at 22,221,000 with a payable duty of 4,444,200 and a DPV of 26,665,200, 3,997 cartons of fake pharmaceutical drugs and multivitamin valued at 5,850,000 with a payable duty of 1,170,00 and a DPV of 7,020,000 Items also seized according to Nuhu include used vehicles, bales of textile materials, large quantities of used tyres, vegetable oil among others Commending Yahaya Usman, an Assistant Comptroller of Customs who leads the Monitoring 2013 and February 2014 team for a job well done, he noted that the above seizures were effected between 5th of December.
