Stakeholders advocate ways to reduce induced climate disaster

Stakeholders in the environmental sector have declared readiness to brainstorm and strategize ways to reduce induced climate disaster in the country.
The experts made the disclosure during a one day National Consultative workshop on Climate Risk Mitigation, Preparedness and Responses held yesterday, in Abuja.
The Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),Engr. Mustapha Maihaja while declaring the one day workshop open said ‘’ the national workshop is among the steps necessary to collectively prepare and strategise to reduce climate induced disasters in our country.
Maihaja further stated that “as parts our collective efforts we saw the need to always come together with the view to restrategise plan of action towards safeguarding and protecting our citizens infrastructures and other elements that are vulnerable in the environment.”
According to him, the impact of the disaster on lives, properties and environment depends on the country‘s level of preparedness which to a large extend relies on efficient early warning systems that in turn drives all processes constituting our action mechanisms.
He adds, “in line with the paradigm shift to disaster risk reduce reduction, NEMA is preparing to also map vulnerable communities based on the prediction as indicated by our climate risk monitoring agencies to enhance and direct enlighten campaign in critical states.
“And I’m sure that this new approach will pay off positively if we adhere to the technical committee submission and take our resolution today to the target population”.
Earlier, in his good will message, the Special Adviser on Disaster Risk Management to Vice President of Nigeria, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu reiterates that “The Vice President has taken care of the ownership and political will of ensuring safety of life and properties of all the citizenry of the federal republic of Nigeria.’’
“ On the 19 July 2018 in the National Executive Meeting (NEC),the FG came up with a plan to
ensure that there are effective and efficient collaborations of the key stakeholders that are important in managing emergencies.
“FG has constituted a committee in such a way that all the stakeholders are involved .Where they identify the prone places in such a way that FG will take 30% state government 30 %of the due cost presidential committee on flood relief and rehabilitation 40% that the federal republic of Nigeria today are setting up under the titrate of NEMA are setting up National Earlier warning center under the presidency chaired by vice president Yemi Osibanjo.”
Oke-Osanyintolu continued:‘’Nema has shown key leadership by gathering all the technical teams together to reduce morality and mobility that is associated with any form of disaster in the states.
“Effectiveness and efficient collaborations with stakeholders is what would allow us to achieve the results we all wanted and early warning with total human security.’’
