A former chairman of Gwagwalada area council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has explained that he is seeking re-election as council chairman, in order to help accelerate inclusive development in the area.
Giri, who made this known when he picked the nomination and expression of interest forms to contest for March 2019 FCT area council elections, promises to consolidate on his performance during his first tenure in 2016.
He said that rural electrification, health care services,
roads, procurement of new transformers were part of his administration legacies in 2016.
He explained that his desire to seek re-election for chairmanship position of the council was borne out of pressure by elders, youth as well as women groups, across the 10 wards of the council.
According to him, residents of Gwagwalada area council, especially rural dwellers have seen what his administration achieved during his first
tenure, adding that he would provide more dividends of democracy if given the mandate for a second term.
“I want to make it categorically clear and to correct the impression that I am not desperate to contest for chairman of Gwagwalada, but due
to much pressure by stakeholders and my supporters across the 10 wards.
“So, I have picked this nomination form to indicate that I have resolved to answer the calls of the good people of Gwagwalada area council to seek re-election in 2019 by God’s grace.”
