The Alumni of Government Special Science Secondary School Makurdi, has donated various science equipment worth over N5million to enhance teaching and learning in their Alma Mata.
Making the donation at the weekend, on behalf of the old students, President of the Alumni, Jerry Aende, said the gesture was influenced by the great experiences they garnered whilst in the school.
Aende said,”As graduates of our Alma Mata, we know firsthand the high quality of education provided to students. We appreciate not only the education we received, but also the values that our Alma Mata instilled in us including a critical perspective of the world and a focus on excellence in all our endeavours.
“Today both here in Nigeria and across the globe our graduates are achieving giant strides as professionals in diverse discipline including the military, engineering, medicine, science and education etc.
“Only Just recently, one of our very own in the United States of America, John Enoh has designed and produced the first $5 smart phone for Africa, known as Oyi-1 which is billed for launch in October this year.
“Thus, as a way of giving back to the school that moulded us, and also as a pathway to creating an opportunity and motivation for our teachers and students to effectively improve in the teaching and learning of practical science, the National body is inspired to donate this over N5 million worth of laboratory equipment to our Alma Mata.
“By this donation, it is our fervent hope that theoretical tutorials of chemistry, physics and biology at our Alma Mata will be further enhanced, as it will enable our students to grasp concepts through much needed practical works.”
Receiving the equipment, Benue state Commissioner of Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavya represented by the Director, Secondary Education Pst.
Samuel Ekerigbe commended the Alumni for the gesture, stressing that the government had concluded arrangements to set up more science secondary schools across the state.
