Ex Benue Deputy Gov. picks APC Senate ticket

Ex Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani, yesterday emerged as candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for the Benue South Senatorial District.
The primaries started on Wednesday and ended on Thursday in Otukpo, headquarters of the Senatorial zone.
The returning officer for the Senatorial primaries, Alhaji Abubakar Maru who announced the results declared that, Chief Lawani polled a total of 1,321 votes to defeat his closest rival Comrade Daniel Onjeh who scored a total of 1,059 votes while Dr Andrew Egboja got 21 votes.
Comrade Onjeh hails from the same Ogbadibo local government of the state as chief Lawani.
With this victory, chief Lawani would now slug it out with whoever that would emerge as PDP candidate from the yet-to-be- conduct PDP primaries for the zone.
In Benue North East district, former Chairman, Board of Benue State Internal Revenue Services, BIRS Mrs. Mimi Orubibi beat two (2) other aspirants to emerge the APC senatorial candidate. for the zone.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for the Benue south senatorial district which could not hold due to some unresolved issues was held yesterday in Makurdi amidst tight security.
Delegates from the nine(9) LGAs that makeup the Senatorial District reconvened at the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi to pick candidates for the National assembly as well as state assembly seats.
The top contenders for the cherished Senate seat are; former minister of Interior Comrade Abba Moro, permanent secretary ministry of Defence and Joseph Ojabo house of assembly member for Ogbadibo state constituency.
