The Zamfara State Civil Society Network has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of saving the lives of innocent people declare state of emergency in Zamfara state being the only step to curtail escalation of deadly political violence.
The chairman of the network, Malam Anas Sani Anka who, declared this at a press conference yesterday in Gusau the state capital warned that, with the kind of unlawful approach against the citizens of Zamfara state during the cancelled APC governorship primaries in the state last Wednesday, if state of emergency is not declared, the state may become ungovernable.
The network further alleged that, with Governor Abdulazeez Yari Abubakar at the helm of affairs, the conduct of the primaries for the APC in Zamfara state may not be possible hence people would never accept the governor’s selfish interest on the conduct of the election.
According to Malam Anka, to ensure fairness on all the contestants as well as the party members, the President need to intervene in the political running of the state and resolve the differences according to his constitutional power.
The chairman further noted that, citizens especially youths and women voters were allegedly molested by the agents of the state government as they simply objected to the imposed candidate of the state Governor.
The network also lamented the rate at which innocent lives were killed in Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Bungudu and Tsafe during the Wednesday’s primaries noting that, the state Police Commissioner and other heads of the security agencies need to investigate the matter for proper actions.
