Kaduna students’ union leaders lock horns over scholarship

A major crisis is now brewing in the executive ranks of the National Association of Kaduna State Students, NAKASS over an ultimatum given by a faction of the union to the Kaduna State Government to pay a backlog of scholarship arrears owed its members.
Last Thursday, the faction of the union led by Comrade Jeremiah Gwaza, it’s Secretary General had issued the Kaduna State Government 21- day ultimatum to pay them the arrears of three academic scholarships.
But in a dramatic twist yesterday, the faction led by its President, Comrade Yahaya Abdullahi and Speaker, Comrade Emmanuel Sheyin, addressed newsmen at the Secretariat of the Kaduna NUJ Council saying the association has distanced itself from the ultimatum issued to the Kaduna State Government describing the opponent faction as impostors.
“The leadership of National Association of Kaduna State Students (NAKASS) distance itself and totally condemn the so called press release by some impostors with reference to the 21 days ultimatum given to Kaduna State Government on local scholarship dated 10th October, 2018
“The news came to us as a shock, as the said group do not even know the status of the scholarship they referred to. However, as we are speaking to you right now, The State Government has since last two months approved payment of the local scholarship, the released of the funds and currently the scholarship board is working for the sorting and other processes for the awardees which we hope, in few weeks beneficiaries will receive their alert.
“Leadership of this noble association wish to inform the students and general public that henceforth any formal communication from the association, after further deliberations by the officials will be made through the President (Comr. Yahaya Abdullahi), the Speaker (Comr Emmanuel B. Sheyin), or the President’s Spoke persons,” they said.
