APC operates like a cult, says Fayose

Date:

Ayo-Fayose
  • …vows to stay put in PDP

By Lawrence Olaoye

Former Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday said the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) operates like a cult, insisting that the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi will not win the forthcoming election scheduled for June 21.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after picking PDP governorship nomination form in Abuja at the party national secretariat, Fayose said he opposes the concept of consensus in determining who flies the party’s flag in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state.

While insisting that those candidates who are jostling for the party’s ticket must pass through the primary, Fayose vowed not to leave the PDP should he loose to a popular candidate.

“From day one I have been anti-consensus. The party said there would be no consensus and I have always said if you defeat me I will shake your hands. I love primaries; through primary, there will not be acrimony. The party has reiterated it would conduct a free and fair primary.

“It is too late for me to cross carpet. If I don’t win I will not cross carpet. I am no longer a small boy, a former governor, 54 years, and I want to take the decision in good faith.”

It would be recalled that about 33 persons had indicated interest in the Ekiti governorship race under the party, but so far three have picked forms. They are Fayose, Chief Adedayo Adeyeye and former Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade.

Fayose furthe declared that South-west is not the home of APC, adding that the internal wrangling in the ruling PDP gave the opposition the opportunity of winning the region through the judiciary.

“The South-west is not the home of APC. Don’t forget that APC operates like a cult. If they bring you they put you in the cooler. I am telling you, PDP will win Ekiti state,” he said.

Fayose said that the reason Fayemi is having problems as Ekiti state governor was because he was too elitist and has no human relation.

“APC knows that Fayose is their headache. Fayemi’s government is far removed from the people,” he said.
