Military debunks abduction rumour along Biu-Damaturu road

The headquarters Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole of the military hasdescribe the what it describes as fake news on a national daily not Peoples Daily alleging that suspected BokoHaram terrorists have abducted unspecified passengers plyingBiu-Damaturu road yesterday.
In a press statement from the Acting Assistant Director, Army PublicRelations, Sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Lieutenant Njoka Irabor,this military stated that the news is not true as there is no suchincidence in the north east, let alone in the mentioned road.
He said the media misunderstood what he said was the military routinemeasures to curb the criminal activities of Boko Haram terroristsand ensure safety and security of all residents and commuters, troopscarry out routine patrols, checks and ambushes, which sometimes callsfor temporary closure of the roads.
“What happened in morning of 1st February 2019 was that there wasreported suspected movement of Boko Haram terrorists and the troopsswung into action and in order to avoid likely collateral damages, thetroops temporarily halted vehicles movement. However, the road wasimmediately reopened after the routine military operation,” he said.
He called on members of the public and the good people of Yobe state,particularly motorist and travelers plying that route, todiscountenance the report and go about their lawful daily activities,as the military troops are working round the clock to ensure theprotection of lives and property of members of the public, especiallyon the roads.
