PTAD verifies 1,731 retired Savannah Sugar company’s workers

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD has commenced the verification of 1731 retired workers of privatised Savannah Sugar Company Numan in Adamawa state for their entailments.
Flagging off the exercise in Yola Wednesday Executive Secretary of PTAD,Mrs Sharon Ikeazor said the verification exercise is only for ex-workers of Savannah Sugar Company who were disengaged in 2002 following the privatization of the Company.
It could be recalled that Dangote group of companies bought over the Savannah sugar company Numan through the Federal government privatisation exercise in 2002.
Mrs Ikeazor said, this is in furtherance of the present administration’s commitment to improve the welfare of all Nigerian pensioners especially those neglected by previous administrations.
She further revealed that the Directorate has concluded arrangement for the verification of all other treasury funded parastatals, including defunct /privztised agencies and will commence shortly across the country.
In an interview with the Chairman, Trade Workers Association, Savannah Sugar Company, Chief Polycarp Mbande, lamented that they were suffering in the past 16 years without any expectations from any source.

The union has equally made representation to the National Assembly and other pension relevant agencies but their plight have fell on deaf ears not until this time around, the Chairman stated.
