Gunmen kill 3 policemen in Katsina

Unknown gunmen, yesterday attacked a police checkpoint in Gidan Mutum Daya along Katsina-Kano road where they killed three policemen on duty in the area

An eyewitness, a taxi driver, Kabir Sa’adu, said he was right at the check point when he heard gun shots coming towards the area, adding that when he turned to see what was happening he saw three lifeless of policemen on the ground.

He added that the gunmen four in number were riding on two motorcycles and according him they urged people around the vicinity of the checkpoint not to panic as their targets were only the police men.

“In fact when they came all the passengers I was carrying in my car nine of them ran into the bush. But they told us that we are not the target and that the policemen were their target. After the incident I could not locate four of my passengers as they ran into the bush in panic”, he disclosed.

However, when contacted the Katsina police command spokesman, DSP Aminu Abubakar Saddiq confirmed that three policemen were killed at the check point by suspected cattle rustlers riding on motorcycles.

He added that when the suspected rustlers attacked the checkpoint the police responded where according to him the gunmen abandoned their motorcycles where he said it was in the process of pursuing them that a Golf Car conveying some suspected rustlers open fire and killed the policemen.

Saddiq similarly stated that none of the gunmen was either arrested or killed but that as he said the police are on their trail and assured that the criminals would not escape the hand of justice.
