NAHCON promises better operations in 2014

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) yesterday expressed readiness for a better hajj operation in 2014 and beyond.

The National Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, made the promise while delivering a speech at a post mortem conference on 2013 hajj in Abuja.

According to him, such exercise will also enable the stakeholders in the operations to evaluate the successes, challenges and chart a new course for better exercise.

“With this, we will be able to surmount the challenges so that the subsequent hajj operations will be better than the previous ones.

“This will also give the pilgrims the needed encouragement and confidence in hajj operations,” he said

He said that poor preparations and negligence on the part of the pilgrims and the commission alike had been responsible for most problems in the operations.

On the allocation of seats to the country, he said that 76,000 was allocated to Nigeria.

Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, said that coming together after every hajj operations enabled them to correct the mistakes of the previous year.

He cautioned the Muslim faithful to always do the right thing at all times, and desist from any act capable of heating up the polity.

Also responding, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai, said it was a very good development to meet after every hajj to correct the previous year’s mistakes for the better.
