Martin Luther Agwai Peacekeeping Center trains 85,000 peacekeepers

The Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Center (MLAILPKC) Jaji has trained more than 85,000 peacekeepers since inception and the peacekeepers has been deployed on peace missions across the globe.
The Commandant of the Center, Maj. General Abubakar Tarfa disclosed this when the Japanese Government presented a $329,000 donation to the Center to boost Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and protection of citizens.
According to him, from January to April 10 courses were successfully completed at the Center which is the pioneer peacekeepers training Center in the Sub- Sahara region.
Speaking on the kind gesture of the Japanese Government, Maj. General Tarfa said the Center has over a long period enjoyed cordial relationship and assistance from the Japanese Government.
According to the Commandant, the Funds will be used in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Accommodation and capacity building.
“It might interest you to know that this laudable partnership has resulted in the training of over 500 beneficiaries in the courses listed above.
“All facilities provided will be properly monitored,” He assured The ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, Mr Yutaka Kikuta said the Japanese Government in partnership with United Nation Development Fund, (UNDP) supported the Center with money, following its achievements in fight against terrorism and peace support operations.
Noting that adequate security is key to development of a nation, Kikuta said the “upsurge of criminalities and violence , like Boko Haram insurgency has increased the necessity to build and strengthen the the capacity of military and para-military forces in protection of civilians, local communities.”
Representative of the ambassador, Mr mathew Alao said the peace keeping center plays essential role in delivering realistic training to provide the much needed capacity and expertise in leadership and peace support operation.
