VIO reads riot act to traffic mayors

The Director of Directorate of Road Traffic Services popularly known as Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs, Aliyu Wadata has warned the newly inducted Traffic Mayors to avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Directorate in the discharge of their assignments.
Addressing the Traffic Mayors during their induction and orientation in Abuja, the Director charged them to work towards reducing traffic and eradiating accidents in FCT. He further assured them that the Directorate will do everything within its power so that will succeed in this task.
“We will give you all the necessary support and work towards identifying your vehicles for easy movement.
He further explained: “There is a time when you need to ensure the interest of the nation. That is what we are trying to do. The trend of accident and carnage on our roads has continued unabated and as professionals we are trying to come up with a solution and ensure this challenge is reduced to a minimum if not completely eradicated.
“I have a very important meeting with the Mayors and I call on the Directors of Road Traffic to collaborate with their respective state authorities to implement this world class idea which will help to minimize and reduce accidents on our roads.
It would be recalled that the book ‘Driving without Tears” authored by Paul Bepeh , who is also director and Cross Rivers State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, was launched recently in Abuja with tips on how to be a perfect defensive drivers while plying roads.
Barr Fidelix Nnadi who is an Executive Director Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI) informed our Correspondent that those in attendance commended the author for writing the book, which he claimed would help in reducing accident and road crashes to the barest minimum in the country even as the author had also emphasized that the book has been fine-tuned to eradicate the effect of road accident on the productivity profile of the youths who are the drivers of Nigerian economy.
