Chairman Board of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Mr Ibrahim Waziri, on Wednesday assured total overhaul of the company to improve electricity distribution operations in the country, as the company targets 10,000 megawatts by 2017.
Waziri speaking during the board members oversight function to some of the ongoing projects in Lagos said:“ we are working towards achieving 10,000mega watts willing capacity by 2017, while planning to hit 20,000 megawatts by 2020.
“This projection had been at the front burner of the board in achieving sustainable power supply in the country,’’ Waziri said He said that the essence of the visit is for the board to see facts on ground and finds ways to improve the power transmission to the distribution companies to the end users.
According to him, with no distance time, the board will ensure adequate solution and prompt protection of energy loses in the country.
“The company is working towards completing over 160 ongoing projects within the country to serve the electricity consumers effectively.
The TCN board said that currently the country had about 5,000 installed capacity while about 4,100 megawatts is been distributed, adding that the transmission had the capacity to generate 7,000
megawatts willing capacity.
Waziri however assured that all pending projects across the country will be completed in no distance time, adding that the board and management of TCN will remain focus towards achieving desired
objective. “Lots of investment had gone into power sector which we are posed to ensure reliance power transmission and equitable distribution to all required distribution companies.
“ Human capital renewal is important to the board, which we have assured our staff on prompt and effective human capital development,’’ he said.
Waziri said that the board is working towards engaging the State and Local Government on buildings under the transmission towers across the country.
He said that such illegal structures had been a great challenge to the board, while advising residents under the tower to relocate to avoid unexpected dangers.
