The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revived its monthly fitness exercise and staff engagement programme to promote physical health, mental well-being and improved service delivery among its workforce.

The maiden edition of the revived initiative, led by Nancy Sabanti Nathan, Acting Head of Service of the FCT Civil Service, brought together management officials, union leaders and staff from various secretariats, departments and agencies across the territory.

Speaking at the event on Saturday, Nathan explained that the initiative was designed to celebrate life, the country, the President and the FCT Minister in recognition of their performance.

She noted that the revived fitness programme would help prepare staff for the final quarter of the year and sustain momentum towards achieving key administrative goals in infrastructure development, health, education, transportation and sanitation.

“We are currently in the last quarter of the year, and we must remain proactive, stay energetic and sustain our momentum,” she said, noting that major project commissioning ceremonies were scheduled for December 2026.

According to her, the Education Secretariat will host the November 2026 edition of the monthly fitness exercise.

Nathan added that, building on the success of the maiden edition, the administration planned to increase the walking distance from three kilometres to five kilometres and beyond in subsequent sessions.

She also disclosed that future editions would incorporate medical check-ups, aerobics and cultural displays.

In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engineer Richard Yunana Dauda, commended the revival of the initiative, noting that it would help address preventable health challenges associated with sedentary office work.

“When you have a workforce that is healthy, you achieve much more,” Dauda said, emphasising the importance of physical, mental and emotional well-being in achieving effective service delivery.

He added that the FCDA and other secretariats had already indicated their interest in hosting upcoming editions of the programme.

Similarly, the President of the Joint Unions Action Congress of FCTA/FCDA, Comrade Rifkatu Iortyer, commended the administration for reviving the staff wellness programme.

She encouraged union members to participate in greater numbers in subsequent sessions and conveyed staff appeals for continued administrative support in addressing critical welfare concerns, particularly accommodation and transportation.
