Wakili takes over as power Minister for state

The newly appointed Minister of state for Power, Alh. Mohammed Wakili yesterday resumed duties to join the fight in ensuring that Nigeria achieves the stable power supply needed for economic development.

His resumption came shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan sworn in 11 new ministers and assigned portfolios to them. They had earlier been screened by the National Assembly.

Wakili was a former majority leader in the House of Reps representing Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency of Borno state between 1999 and 2003. He has also held various political offices, making him vast in politics.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo while receiving him said, “It is my singular joy to welcome our dear brother who was assigned through the auspices of President Goodluck Jonathan as our Honourable Minister of Power for state.”

Nebo asked him to use his wealth of experience especially as a legislature to assist in resolving legislative issues regarding power.

The Minister assured him of the ministry support saying: “We will give you 100 percent support, and we will work together with you. If you have any idea that will help us, don’t hesitate to let us know. We

need to complement one another and to work in a symbiotic way.” Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Dr. Godknows Igali said Nigerians have been waiting for someone that would be part of the chasing the devil out of the power sector.

Igali said Wakili is well known in Nigeria for his effort therefore would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the running of the power sector. “With the youthful energy which he has, I think we will now move forward,” he said.

In his response, Wakili commended the minister for having a wonderful team which has performed well so far.

According to him, the Ministry of Power had performed more than any other Ministry in the country because of the excellent team they were able to assemble.

He therefore assured the ministry of his cooperation saying, “I am here to contribute my quota to bring my experience from the National Assembly to bear in this ministry.”
