5 labourers docked for joint act, theft

Police have arraigned five Labourers in an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ court, on a three-count charge of alleged joint act, criminal trespass and theft.

The accused persons are Bala Auwalu, 30, Sani Saminu, 27, Mamuda Abdullahi, 30, Yahaya Musa, 32 and Saminu Salisu, 35, all of no fixed address.

The Prosecutor, Mr Bitrus Audu, told the court that, Aboche Babatunde, of Sahara Estate, Abuja, reported the matter to the Life Camp police station on February 28.

Audu said that, on the same date, the complainant’s building site at Sahara estate was demolished by officials of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB).

He said that when the complainant later visited the demolished site, he found the accused persons removing some of the iron rods that were kept at the site.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

The Magistrate, Mr Zubairu Mohammed, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.

He said the surety must be a reasonable person with a means of livelihood and should reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Mohammed adjourned the case until March 10. (NAN)
