Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Bakut tswah Bakut has said that he was privileged serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute under the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released in Abuja by the Institute and signed by the Media Assistant to the DG, Mr. Abu I. Michael it noted that Bakut made this known while receiving the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens-Petter Kyemprud at his office in Abuja.
It stated that Bakut pledged his commitment to the mandate of IPCR adding that his leadership would ensure IPCR’s collaboration with state and non-state actors for the achievement of peaceful coexistence.
According to the statement, “The federal government has nexus of contending demands and would hardly make enough funds available for all the activities of the Institute. He therefore thanked the Embassy of Norway for its support which also led to the IPCR’s publication on Case Studies of Traditional Methods of Resolving Conflict in Nigeria.
“He also thanked the embassy for its commitment to renewing partnership with IPCR noting that as one of the most peaceful countries in the world, Nigeria stands to benefit much from Norwegians’ experience and other Nordic countries through the collaboration”.
Earlier, the Ambassador, Jens-Petter Kyemprud mentioned at present Norway was interested in humanitarian work, agriculture, communication among other development sectors.
Ambassador Kyemprud disclosed that Norway started relating with Nigeria way back 1884 and with her first shipment to the place called Nigeria today in the 1890s pointing out that Nigeria remained a very important country and strategic to Norway’s interaction with the African continent.
