Group frowns at CBN Gov, Emefiele’s phone recording

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisation (CCSO) has raised concern on the alleged letter and phone recording against Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele saying it is the handiwork of those against the reappointment of the governor by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement jointly signed by the President and Secretary-General of the Coalition, Com. Etuk Bassey Williams  and Abubakar Ibrahim, respectively yesterday, the Coalition urged the security agencies to ensure that blackmailers are brought to judgment.

George Uboh, who heads the nongovernmental George Uboh Whistleblowers Network, had written from Kuje prison alleging N500bn financial misappropriation by Godwin Emefiele through a purported doctored audio tape released earlier by an online medium.

Etuk in the statement said the audio tape was the handiwork of blackmailers whose main aim was to tarnish the image of the CBN Governor and perhaps prevents his reappointment.

He said some major interest in the country had swarm to take away his appointment using all forms of allegations, adding that the organisations has been briefed that the audio was to seek means of balancing the affected balance sheet.

The group urged the police to fish out collaborators within the bank that is responsible for the linked tape so as to save guard the integrity of the institution.

“This act to blackmail the Governor should not be encouraged but rather collectively death with. It is now obvious that the blackmailer’s network is strong and for public functionaries to act, they must be dealt with accordingly.

The group further pointed out the achievement of current leadership of the apex bank in agriculture and financial policies especially the zero digits which is helping to diversify the economy, saying such efforts should not be truncated.
