The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the crashed ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing recovery and investigation.
The NAF disclosed that the recorder was confirmed intact by technical teams from the Air Force and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). Part of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), commonly known as the black box, was also recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate its remaining portion.
The Air Force also confirmed the recovery of additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains as rescue and recovery operations continue in the challenging swamp terrain.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the NAF said recovery teams were working to retrieve outstanding aircraft components to facilitate comprehensive technical examinations and establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
It added that the Directorate of Identification and Classification (DIC) was handling the necessary procedures for the proper identification of recovered human remains.
The Air Force further disclosed that it had maintained engagements with the victims’ families to provide information and support, while discussions with relevant authorities on environmental concerns raised by the host community remained ongoing.
The NAF appealed for patience and understanding, noting that the recovery and investigation processes require careful coordination and professional attention.
It reaffirmed its commitment to providing verified updates and ensuring that findings from the investigation would help strengthen flight safety and safeguard personnel and citizens.
