Benue senatorial election: Jev opens defense against Akume

Senator representing Benue North West Senatorial District Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev yesterday opened his defense against former Governor and erstwhile Senator George Akume at the National/State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
Akume who was defeated by former House of Representatives member Barr Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev for the Benue North West Senatorial District (or Benue zone B) in the 2019 general elections took his opponent to the election petition tribunal alleging malpractice in the conduct of the election.
Senator Jev called five witnesses who
were cross examined by the legal team of the former governor and Senator led by his lead counsel Ishaq Dikko (SAN) affirmed that the election was conducted in compliance with the electoral act.
The Tribunal chairman Justice R.O. Odugu adjourned the case to Friday August 16, 2019 when the respondent is expected to close his defense
It could be noted that Senator Orker Jev of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP defeated Senator George Akume of the All Progressives Congress APC to clinch the Benue North West Senatorial seat by forty two thousand votes, winning in six out of the seven local government areas that make up the Constituency.
