Masari tasks engineers on cost effective designs

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has emphasized the need for engineers to plan and design infrastructures that could be provided within the limited resources available in the country.
Governor Masari was speaking during the opening session of the 28th Engineering Assembly held at the International Conference Centre-ICC, Garki, Abuja.
Masari who was the chairman of the occasion explained that population had been growing geometrically without corresponding infrastructures and other needs of the populace.
The theme of the Nigerian Engineering Assembly is “ strategic Alliance Amongst Engineering professionals for Enhanced Opportunities”.
The Governor noted that other countries that started with Nigeria have gone far with plans and designs locally before joining the global community.
He commended organizers of the assembly, especially the president of COREN, whom he said he knew 19 years ago when he was serving as chairman of the water resources committee of house of representatives and the COREN president was at that time a consultant to the committee.
In a welcome address, the President of the COREN , Engineer Ali Rabi’u explained that the Assembly provides a unique opportunity to rub minds on the profession in its contribution to the development of the Nigerian Nation.
Engineer Ali Rabi’u commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for fulfilling his pledge to be present during the opening session of the Engineering Assembly as chairman of the occasion.
He also commended President Muhammad Buhari for assenting the amendment to the Act establishing the council for the regulation of engineering in Nigeria-COREN.
Engineer Ali Rabi’u assured that the leadership of COREN would take steps to enforce the amendment to the Act.
He also assured that the council would contribute to the rebuilding infrastructures destroyed by insecurities to reposition Nigeria as the heartbeat of Africa..
Engineer Ali Rabi’u hoped that COREN would become a member of the international Engineering Alliance to enable members to practice in all member countries of the United Nations.
Earlier, while introducing the event, the Registrar of COREN, Professor Joseph Obofoni Odigure gave statistical analysis of the strength of the COREN in Nigeria.
The Registrar said 50 thousand Engineers in the country adding that with 55 faculties of engineering in Nigerian Universities, the country needed the contribution to move to the next level.
There were other Goodwill messages from President Muhammad Buhari, Senate President, Alhaji Ahmad Lawan, the Speaker of house of representatives and the immediate past president of COREN, Engineer Kashim Ali, the Andoma of Doma among others.
