Tragedy: Father of 3 electrocuted in Asaba

A middle aged man identified as Chukwuemeka Brown was in the early hours of Tuesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State electrocuted in his alleged attempt to vandalize electricity transformers.
While two others who accompanied him to the transformers’ alleged vandalization were reported to have been seriously Injured, and arrested by the Police for theft.
Eyewitness John Osekwe said that the middle aged man instantly died around High Court road in Asaba.
Sources said that transformers within High Court road have been constantly vandalized by unknown thieves in the recent times and had plunged residents of the area into continued darkness and have resorted to the use of generators to power their business activities.
But the state Police Commissioner, Adeleke Adeyinka who confirmed the incident to journalists in Asaba said that the father of three until his untimely death, was engaged in unskilled labour to cater for his family, especially his children who are still very young and cannot find for themselves yet .
Adeyinka disclosed that the body of the victim was deposited at the Federal Medical Center (.FMC,) Asaba while investigation was ongoing into the two arrested and injured during their attempt to vandalize electricity transformers.
Onlookers at the scene questioned the efficiency of security agents in the area, stressing that given the circumstances the victim with his gang members had allegedly been vandalizing electricity transformers in the past before nemesis caught up with them and he as the leader was eletrocuted on the spot.
Meanwhile, the state government has embarked on various sensitization to warn the public on the ills of vandalism, especially with electrical installations in the state.
The state Commissioner for Power and Energy, Mr Basil Ganagana who spoke to Journalists in Asaba on Tuesday however disclosed that the state government would ensure vandals are prosecuted and send to jail, adding that the state government had taken steps to ensure power supply steadily in the state, especially in Asaba.
