Date:

From Nosa Akenzua, Asaba

A three -day ravaging flood in Aradhe community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State has destroyed property worth millions of naira, submerged several houses and sacked sixty three house owners in the area.
Investigation revealed that the heavy rainfall in the community had brought pains to its victims, especially those whose houses were destroyed and their farmlands, crops following non- existing water outlets in the community.
One of the residents, Mrs Rachel Ikelegbe who spoke to Journalists in the area on Tuesday, lamented her loss, stating that she kept an all-night vigil with her children because of the flood as had lost so many of her goods , including garri and other food items to the flood.
President of the Isoko National Youth Assembly ( INYA) , comrade Ovie Umuakpo who is an indigene of the Aradhe community attributed the flood not only to the unabated rain as earlier stated but to the absence of watershed in the community, emphasizing that the community was desperately in need of drainage systems to forestall future occurrences.
While calling on the state government to ensure Aradhe community drainage systems are put in place to avoid more disaster, Comrade Umuakpo regretted that the hovac wreaked by the rainfall, would be difficult to overcome, especially with those whose houses and farmlands crops were destroyed, adding that the situation had brought hunger to the area.
Some of the victims are currently taking refuge in neighbouring communities as they have lost virtually all they have in their houses.
Further investigation revealed that Aradhe community had suffered untold hardship and disaster following the perennial flood disaster that had ravaged and destroyed houses in the area.
