No fewer than three persons were feared dead in a ghastly auto crash which occurred on Asaba- Benin express way on Wednesday in the early hours.
Eyewitness, Chidi Ifechukwudi said that the fatal accident involved the popular Dangote trailer and Sienna bus around the deplorable Ubulu Okiti axis of the Asaba – Benin express way when the trailer driver Jettisoned the rules against high speed to crash into the Sienna bus whose driver took it time while battling with the deplorable spot to drive pass, unfortunately, three of the passengers were feared dead.
It was gathered that youths of Ubulu Okiti currently cashing in to make money on the ongoing road repairs by the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, were said to have descended on the trailer driver when the victims were being rushed to the Federal Medical Center ( FMC) Asaba for treatment, unfortunately they had been feared dead on the spot during which the accident occurred.
But the state Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke who confirmed the incident, said that the trailer driver was arrested and being detained for further investigation, and warned against over speeding on deplorable roads, especially with the ongoing construction works on Ubulu Okiti axis on Asaba- Benin express way.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC) who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity said that the accident was fatal with three persons seriously injured and taken to the Federal Medical Center ( FMC) Asaba for treatment, adding that they were on the road to maintain law and order among the motorists who in most cases throw cautions to the wind and put the lives of many on risk on the express way.
Meanwhile, suspected fulani hersmen operating within the area are alleged to be terrorizing unsuspecting travellers on the road during night fall and have robbed several persons at gunpoint but the police commissioner, Adeyinka Adeleke said that the police was on 24hours surveillance on the road, adding that the suspects would soon be brought to book.
