Abuja Masterplan: AMMC ups measures to mitigate distortions

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), has reinforced the need for stakeholders to ensure that structures are built in line with extant building standards, in order to mitigate distortion of the Abuja master plan.
The Council warned that there was no going back on the pulling down of structures obstructing the approved plan by the department.
Making this point, Director, Department of Development Control of the AMMC, Murktar Galadima, there would more intensified monitoring of contravening structures to ensure that owners of the affected places comply with the directives.
Galadima spoke when he led other officials and combined team of security personnel to Ahmadu Bello way, Garki Area 11 for clearing of unapproved perimeter fences and other structures.
He noted that the enforcement was the continuation of the department planned of action in sanitising the entire territory.
He regretted that some banks and other business premises have closed the normal access road, and take it from the Ahmadu Bello way, which he said ignited the enforcement.
According him, “Those that have access road somewhere but are taken from the Ahmadu Bello, we are enforcing it so that they will comply in line with FCT building standards.
“This clearing is not only in the city centre, but the whole of FCT, and is not going to be start and stop, we are going on with it till the illegal structures are cleared.”
On sustaining the exercise, the Director explained that the exercise was not limited to Federal City Centre (FCC) but the entire Territory, he added that; “anywhere there are lapses we will go back to ensure that the right thing is done.”
Our correspondent reports that illegal structures cleared include a bank fence at Area-II, Lifemate building materials supermarket, Sassy J event and garden on Lord Lugard street in Asokoro.
