The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) on Tuesday presented Certificates of Return to the 17 newly elected Local Government Area chairmen and their vice chairmen in Damaturu.
The presentation followed the peaceful council elections held across the state on September 26, 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony, SIEC Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammad Yabani, urged the newly elected council leaders to shift focus from politics to governance and service delivery.
“The campaign season is over; it is now time to focus entirely on governance, service delivery and the progress of Yobe State,” he said.
Yabani charged them to initiate more impactful grassroots projects, promote inclusive governance and strive for continuous improvement.
He attributed the credibility of the election to the state government’s financial support and Governor Mai Mala Buni’s policy of non-interference in the electoral process.
The SIEC chairman also disclosed that the Commission received two awards for excellence in leadership and election administration, dedicating them to the entire Commission team.
The certificate presentation marks the final stage of the local government electoral process, paving the way for the chairmen’s formal assumption of office.
