NPC/FMOH launch 2018 NDHS survey in Jigawa

The National Population Commission (NPC) in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) has launched the 2018 Demographic and Health Survey findings in Jigawa State.
Speaking at the workshop, the NPC commissioner in charge of Kano/Jigawa State, Dr. Isma’il Lawan Sulaiman said, the workshop is meant to launched and disseminate the National Demographic report.
He explained that, the report contained the family and fertility that include child mortality, maternal mortality, disability and malaria prevalent in the country.
According to him, “the result of the survey shows a number of significant outcome, two percent of women and two percent of men ages 15 and above have difficulty or cannot function in at least one domain of disability.”
“Such as seeing, hearing, communicating, remembering or concentrating, walking or climbing steps, and washing all over the body or dressing up, 9 percent women and 10 percent men have some difficulties in at least one domain or the other”, he stressed.
Adding that the data on disability will be of significance to the social development statistics in planning for the wellbeing of persons living with disabilities in the society especially in the North West zone.”
While making his remarks at the event, th Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, appealed to policy makers and planners to use results from National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) to curtail the rate of STI, HIV and AIDS prevalence in the state.
“This report can also be used for planning purposes in our Ministries, Departments and other relevant agencies in the state,” the governor said.
