From Yusuf Mairiga Shekarau, Jos

The Plateau Government on Monday said that negotiation with labour unions for the implementation of the N30, 000 minimum wage in the state is a must step to take.
Mr. Dan Manjang, State Commissioner of Information and Communication, told newsmen in Jos that significant progress was made on the negotiation with labour unions.
He explained that the stage at which negotiation has reached, with labour unions is fruitful and encouraging.
“We first began the process by setting up a committee being led by Mr. Luka Fwangyil, a former Head of Service, to negotiate with labour about the consequential adjustments as directed by the Federal Government based on the peculiarity, sustainability and capacity of each state.
“Today I will be proud to tell you that that singular step we took is paying as things are going smoothly toward us agreeing on what to pay our most cherished workers.
“I want to put the record straight to the citizens of Plateau that this government is committed to the welfare of its workers and do all it could to achieve that at all cost,” he assured.
The commissioner appealed to workers and the unions to remain calm while negotiations are on and pending subsequent recommendations.
The commissioner enjoined plateau indigenes to desist any attempt by detractors to undermine the governments from discharging its usual constitutional roles to the good people of the state.
