Gunmen kill 12 in fresh Plateau attack

Twelve persons were killed and five others injured in an early morning attack suspected to have been launched by fulani assailants in Rapian village of Barikin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, the Plateau Special Task Force(STF) said.

The STF spokesperson, captain Salisu Mustafa , who confirmed the incidents said the attack occurred around 12: am and believed to be a reprisal for rustling of cows belonging to the Fulani people which were rustled last week.

Mustafa said, “The attack is believed to be a reprisal against the cow’s rustled on 11th February this year which belonged to Fulanis”.

A source from the area also said,” the attackers came on Wednesday night when almost all of us were sleeping and started killing us.”

The STF media officer added that the situation was under control and measures have been taken to avoid further attack.

In another development, the STF media officer in the state revealed that it had recovered 32 guns and 519 ammunitions in the state between January and February this year.
