Two people have been confirmed dead in Gombe due to Lassa fever virus.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Gana made this known yesterday in Gombe while briefing newsmen.
He said that out of the seven suspected cases of the virus two persons die while the ministry awaits laboratory confirmation of the remaining five.
He said the remaining five that awaits laboratory test, one died but added that the ministry is yet to confirm whether he died of Lassa fever or not.
According to him, the first confirmed case was an indigene of Ibbi Local Government Area of Taraba State who was diagnosed at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe where he was treated and discharged home.
He said presently four patients are in the isolation ward.
Speaking further, Dr Gana said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the procurement additional commodities for effective prevention of the outbreak in the state.
He advised the people to take necessary measures including storing food in protective covers, to ensure good hygiene.
